Villains

We all know Superman's most famous villain is Lex Luthor. But Luthor isn't Superman's only villain. In the upcoming movie the producers and the director need to use a villain worthy of the full use of Superman's great and vast powers. Luthor, of course, should always be lurking around in the background of course since he is such an important character in the Superman mythology. But let us not forget that Superman has much more powerful adversaries then Luthor and his kryptonite armor. One of my favorite villains would be Brainiac. He can go toe to toe with Superman and even make him turn on his allies. Brainiac is also the one who is responisble for the shrinking of the city of Kandor, the capitol city of Krypton. Brainiac is capable of taking over any computer system and using it to his benefit, mind control, possesion, transferring consciousness, and soem control over space and time. Brainiac would be a great villain for the new Superman movie. But then again we also have Darkseid.

Darkseid is the alien warlord/ruler/dictator of the planet Apokolips. He is incredibly powerful and would be a great physical match for Superman. They could very well duke it out in the next movie, which would please many fans, myself included. Darkseid is considered to be among the most powerful of the New Gods due to his many God like powers at his disposal. His main and most powerful attack is the Omega Effect or his Omega Beams that he fires from his eyes. They can be used as a concussive force or used to disintegrate or erase any living being from existence as they also have the ability to reform and resurrect any living being. He has pinpoint control over his beams guaranteeing no mistakes. He also possesses the ability to increase his size to mammoth proportions. His Omega beams can turn corners, bend, twist and pass through matter and energy. He has superhuman strength, stamina, and durability equivalent and rivaling that of Superman's himself.  He also possesses the ability to create "boom tubes" which gives him the ability to time travel. Darkseid is a very competent foe of Superman's making him very dangerous.

Then you have the monster DOOMSDAY. The creature that single handedly killed the Man of Steel. DOOMSDAY is a result of cloning an infant and having it killed over and over again by one of the most dangerous species in the universe and in one of the most harshest habitats in existence, prehistoric Krypton. The infant is reborn and becomes stronger and immune to whatever had previously killed it. DOOMSDAY's skeleton protrudes from his body in the form of razor sharp spurs. Having being created on Krypton spells disaster for Superman. DOOMSDAY is virtually invulnerable to any and all attacks any man can dish out. It took every bit of the Man of Steels energy to defeat the creature. Seeing as how this film is a reboot I highly doubt that DOOMSDAY will be the villain of choice so I'll move on to other possible candidates to beat down Superman.

We have the well known villain General Zod. Same powers as Superman...just crazy as all hell and wants to rule the world with Superman as his slave because he's pissed that Superman's dad imprisoned him in the Phantom Zone.  'Nuf said there. Now moving on to other baddies that can quench the Superman fanboy's taste for blood. Intergang. That's right, Intergang. They are a nationwide organized crime syndicate armed with weapons supplied by Darkseid and led by Bruno Mannheim. Since the film was originally supposed to be produced by Christopher Nolan, Intergang would fit in well with his gritty portrayal of superheroes. Just look at his Batman franchise. Based on organized crime, his franchise tries to take the silliness from the series that was brought on by Joel Schummacher. But since Nolan has left the project and handed it over to his hand picked director, Zack Snyder, who knows what lies in store of the Man of Steel.

Metallo would be another great choice of villain. He is a former mercenary by the name of John Corben who has been transformed into a cyborg with a kryptonite heart...which could kill Superman!  Metallo, incase you weren't able to figure it out, is able to control...guess what? METAL! He has the ability to take on metal components such as cars, street lamps and the such to make himself larger. He's a great villain for Superman, I'm just unsure as to where they could fit him in.  His metallic body protects him from energy and physical attacks. He doesn't need to eat or sleep and his brain is hermetically sealed inside a shielded alloy skull that has it's own power supply.

Superman has MANY more villains the writers could choose from. I just hope they choose a villain who has yet to be seen on the big screen. As I mentioned before, the next villain Superman faces off against needs to be worthy of his power and has to be able to push Superman to the edge of darkness. Almost to the breaking   point to where he has to refrain from killing the enemy at hand. Superman is a powerful force to be reckoned with and deserves a powerful enemy. Not only a physically powerful enemy but also mentally. We will see how thing progress over the next two years as the movie doesn't hit theaters until December 2012. As more and more news hit the web about Superman, expect to hear it here. Until next time, up, up and away!
