Superman: The Man of Steel

So here it goes, this is my first blog and low and behold it's on the upcoming Superman movie. As much as I'm excited about the upcoming Superman movie there are a few issues that need to be addressed that were not touched on in Superman Returns. Namely Clark Kent's persona. In the earlier comics Clark was always very "mild-mannered" and clumsy. He sometimes stuttered when he spoke; very unassertive in his mannerisms. Christopher Reeve had Clark Kent and Superman down pat. He was perfect. When portraying Superman you basically have to play 3 different people: Kal-el,  Superman, and Clark Kent. Kal-el is who Superman or Clark is when he isn't at The Daily Planet or out saving lives. It's just him! Superman is the very assertive and strong savior of the people of Metropolis and the world really. And lastly Clark is the person he is when he is at work or while around people who don't know he is Superman, such as Kent family friend Ben Hubbard.

My problem with Brandon Routh lies in the fact you didn't see much of the bumbling of Clark Kent. Sure he slouched a little and had a few awkward moments with Lois but that's it. He NAILED Kal-el and Superman. The interactions with his mother were great and with Lex made you feel his pain. He just never really captured the essence of Clark. This is what I want to see in the upcoming Superman movie. In the first Superman when Clark caught his finger in the orange juice maker was great; and the scene where he gets stuck in the revolving door of The Daily Planet is pure Clark Kent! I hope that David Goyer, being a comic book writer can truly capture the "Clark Kent moments". Maybe something like Clark stapling his tie to a draft of one of his stories...that would be pure Clark. One thing that always stuck out about Clark is that his hair is always absolutely flat, while Superman's hair has a slight wave and is parted on the opposite side as Clark's.

There are many different facets of Clark Kent and Superman that need to be considered when making a movie about the greatest superhero of all-time! You need to also find a man who can pull off the look of both Clark Kent and Superman. Christopher Reeve once again was perfect. Brandon Routh also did a very good job. This person needs to have jet black hair, around 6'4 with icy blue eyes. They also need to be young enough to star in any sequels that should arise, not someone who would be in their 40's by the time a sequel hit theaters. They need to have a decent guild on them and be able to make a person believe a man can fly. Here is what I think the next Superman should look like:

All of these images are from the comic book Superman: Earth One. This Superman is a slimmed down version of The Man of Steel yet he still maintains an bad-ass look to him. I urge Zack Snyder to do plenty of research in choosing a Superman. It's very important to the fans...oh and this wouldn't be a bad idea to have in the film either...

So I hope you all have enjoyed my first blog. Who know how often I will get around to blogging...but I'm off to sleep now ladies and gents.
